Bushey & District

Silverstone

On Thursday 5th June, the Wings and Wheels group paid a visit to
Silverstone. The weather wasn’t kind to us but fortunately, the visit
concentrated on the indoor museum, rather than the track. During the
course of the journey, there was a quiz, based on well-known logos and a
raffle, where one lucky member received a full refund on the entire cost of
the trip.

The museum is spacious and well laid out and there are examples of racing
cars from most eras. The modern, Formula 1 racing car, is much larger
than the impression given on TV, a veritable beast, packed with power and
safety features. Fatalities, once an horrific aspect of motor racing, are now
almost unheard of, even though top speeds can be in excess of 230mmph.
For those with £20 to spare and a strong constitution, you can try your luck
on an F1 simulator. A 30-minute experience where you quickly start to
believe that you’re actually in a car, hurtling around the track. Not for the
faint hearted!

A good time seemed to be had by all and we arrived back at Bushey at
around 5.00pm, in the rain!
